The Taking of Matenga at Night from the City

1 The taking of Matenga from the City troubled the hearts of very many people.

2 Since there was that word saying Matenga would never leave the City without bidding farewell to her City .

3 Now there were also some men and women who conspired, saying,Now there were also some men and women who conspired, saying, "We must take Matenga and go with her to another place.and go with her to another place."

4 When they had conspired, these men were Chagaresango, Chiweshe, Baba VaNhamo, and others of theirs.

5 They were very many, and these men made a very serious pledge, but the whole City did not know.

6 Even King Zimunya did not know what would happen on that day.

7 "So where the first one arrives is where the last one will tread,"Matenga used to say.

8 When these men came to take Matenga , some came from Chinhoyi, others from Highfield, Harare; some of them were in the City .

9 When the day arrived, they came at night with their vehicles.

10 But all the people were asleep in the City ; most of them did not know that Matenga would be leaving.

11 They went to Matenga’s Ark, spoke with Mutumwagomo, and took Matenga .

12 It was now 1 o'clock in the middle of the night on Wednesday, 9th November 1960.

13 Having removed the Father from her Ark, they put her into the vehicle they had come with.

14 They took her and brought her to Highfield, then passed through and took her to Chinhoyi, in Zvimba, to a certain farm called Chashamba.

15 But the whole City did not know that Matenga had gone that night.

16 It was only the next morning that the word went around the City that Matenga had been taken the previous night.

17 Now some people went traveling, following Matenga ; they reached Harare, Highfield, and Sipolilo, and they had that Jeep of Matenga’s.

18 When they returned, the word said,"She went to Chinhoyi."

19 VaSekuru Nyamandura, Mukoma Beta, Noa, and others suffered while searching.

20 When they heard that Matenga was there, her Jeep was not allowed to reach that place.

21 But they were eventually allowed to reach there and they saw Matenga .

22 But others were later chased away from there, as the owners of the place said they should not stay there.
